I’m Martin Bukowski, a computer scientist and systems engineer that specializes in high performance systems, machine learning, and automation. While my early career had me working primarily in banking and advertising, for the last decade I have provided systems engineering, data architecture, and machine learning consulting through my company Byte Motive Data Systems. This site here is mostly a place for me to put some of my projects and writing I have done over the decades. I write mostly about computer science and philosophy, but there are also some recipes I wanted to remember and some reflections on my years homesteading in the country.

For anyone interested in large language models my two most recent essays are pretty interesting. Someone asked me to explain how I understood the internals, so I wrote KV Cache Compression Is The Symptom, Not The Disease (it's a pretty advanced topic), and for a introductory primer on model training I wrote Thoughts on Training Large Language Models.

If you are interested in sound frequency and cymatics, check out my Cymatic Tone Explorer. I find myself thinking about frequencies and patterns a lot, so I threw it together one day as a sandbox to test some ideas. Was it just an excuse to do edge simulation with WebGPU? Perhaps.

Not all of my projects are based here. I had this idea a long time ago on how Hebrew was organized into root words, and applied Jaccard coefficients to create a pretty powerful bible search engine that I deployed at biblefind.net.

The backgrounds were some of my very early tests with generative AI diffusion models. It's amazing how far we have come since the original stable diffusion models launched.
